HONORING THE LAND AND SPACE
History of the Silo Property
FORMERLY WEEMS PROPERTY
Sue Weems has lived on this farm for over 40 years. Sue’s late husband Ben was an attorney by trade but his passions were teaching, ranching and farming. Ben also built a school on the property that emphasized experiential learning. He gifted the farm over to Sue and told her one day she would do something meaningful and beautiful on this land. Since his death, Sue has spent many years refining her vision for the property: a human-scale, pedestrian neighborhood, where carefully designed physical attributes will help engender meaningful social interaction and activity. And central to this is the social concept of aging in place.
The Vision
PERSPECTIVE FROM SUE WEEMNS, PROPERTY OWNER
“My late husband entrusted me to create something new with his beloved land. To that end, I envision a paradigm shift in the way developments are planned and built. In addition, we are all dedicated to a social initiative to create a vibrant, traditional neighborhood for all ages that embodies the values of a small village, coupled with environmental sustainability, and the opportunity to remain within the rich social fabric of one’s neighborhood as you age. This is my home and I plan on spending the rest of my days here. I hope you share my excitement as we move forward with this progressive vision.”
